It’s that time of year again to celebrate the up and coming Australian sporting talent in our communities.
NewsLocal is looking to recognise the exceptional efforts of local athletes, teams, coaches and managers with the launch of the 2019 Local Sports Stars awards.
If this sounds like you or someone you know, be sure to enter our awards at localsportsstars.com.au. Nominations opened this week and will close on August 31.
Prizes will be awarded to talented athletes and teams aged 18 and under in three categories: Junior Sports Star — Individual, Team of Excellence and the Inspiration Award — Individual.
We also have an open-age Service To Sport category for people who are the heart and soul of their sports clubs and codes.
The stories of many of those nominated will be featured in NewsLocal’s newspapers and on our website, localsportsstars.com.au.
Finalists will be selected for each newspaper, with overall NSW winners announced in each category at a gala awards presentation in October.
Past winners of our program have included Olympians Jarryd Hughes, Jessica Thornton and Jessica Fox.
The Hornsby Advocate’s 2018 Junior Sports Star winner Jonathan Adji said: “I would encourage all children that love doing any sport to achieve high and have themselves nominated for the award. It really doesn’t matter if you win or lose.”
NewsLocal would like to thank our sponsor Featherdale Wildlife Park for their support in 2019.
