Hills District Netball Association’s under-13 representative squad have finished runners-up at the 2018 State Age Championships.

The small association based out of Pennant Hills defied all expectations as they lost just three out of 16 games to finish just one point behind winners Liverpool City.

Coach Kim Hosking said it was an outstanding effort from the team after they came seventh at last year’s carnival.

“Hills is quite a small association so I thought coming seventh was a pretty good achievement, but to come second is bloody brilliant,” she said.

“We did all the right things to give ourselves the best opportunity and it was very, very close at the end of three days.

“I knew they had it in them.”

Ms Hosking added that a lot of the credit also had to go to her assistant coaches Gen Seed and Brooke Nichol.

“It was very much a team effort.”

Hills District is the latest nominee for the Hornsby Advocate Local Sports Stars awards, which are on until August 31.

Prizes will be awarded to athletes aged 18 and under across four categories: Junior Sports Star Individual, Junior Sports Star Team, Young Sporting Spirit Individual and Young Sporting Spirit Team. There is also a Service To Sport category.
