Ephraim Agoo claims vault gold at Australian National Gymnastics Championships

National gold has Ephraim Woo more determined than ever to keep striving to achieve his Olympic dream.

A sensational performance at the 2019 Australian Gymnastics Championships has propelled 10-year-old Ephraim Agoo closer to achieving his Olympic dream.

The Sydney Gymnastics and Aquatic Centre representative was at his absolute best, pulling off an amazing score of 9.700 on the vault to claim his first national gold medal.

Ephraim also finished eighth on the pommel horse to earn an all-round finish of 12th.

Having excelled in his first taste of national competition, Ephraim is more motivated than ever to one day represent Australia on the Olympic stage.

“I would love to compete at the Olympic Games when I’m older,” Ephraim said.

“I always wanted to be a gymnast ever since I watched the Olympics and found it so fascinating and extraordinary. So my parents enrolled me when I was six and I loved it.

“I love learning new skills and tricks every training session. I also love how once you perfect a skill you add to it again, becoming even harder and more challenging.”

Considering how hard Ephraim trains each week, Olympic representation could come sooner rather than later.

“I train up to 28 hours per week,” he said.

“On Mondays and Wednesdays I train before school from 6.30am to 8am. Then I leave school early to train from 3.45pm to 7.45pm.

“On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays I train just the afternoon hours which means I get a sleep in.”
