BOSSLEY PARK High School under 15 football team have such a great team and culture that even their experienced coach Geoffery Stanmore is amazed.
Stanmore has coached several teams to championships and says these boys are so driven to play for each other, that even those who are dropped, don’t feel they are discarded.
Bossley Park High School reached the semi-finals of the prestigious Bill Turner Cup, and have a rich history in the world’s biggest schools football tournament.
They were crowned champions in 1992, 2002 and 2009 and were runners-up in 2011. Four years ago, the school finished just outside the top three.
This week’s nominees for the Local Sports Star Team Spirit category have already done their coach and school proud.
“This team has a very good culture and do not take anything for granted,” said Stanmore, who has been coaching the school since 2003.
“They have an incredible culture which I haven’t seen before, because they respect everyone including those who are not selected for the team.
“There are 140 kids in our Talented Football Program, which is 10 per cent of the school population.
“I am very proud of how our team has performed in the Bill Turner Cup because they have worked very hard to get to this stage.”
The Bill Turner Cup finals are being held at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility, Speers Point and also feature Westfields Sports High, Newcastle High School and Toowoomba Grammar School.
