A YOUNG Kenthurst footballer plans to put the Matilda in to the Matildas.

Matilda Comito, 10, has played for Kenthurst Football Club since she was seven and this year also joined the inaugural U10 Girls Skills Acquisitions Program with Hills Football.

“There were trials before the season started where only 14 of us girls were picked from about 50 who trialled,” she said.

Matilda started playing football when she was seven after being introduced to the sport through her four brothers.

She trains four to five times per week and spends her spare time kicking a ball around with her brothers and sister.

“There is always someone to have a game with,” she said.

Matilda has plenty of practice against her siblings.

Matilda said playing against her siblings was “enjoyable and competitive”.

“It is fun trying to beat them, although it does get a bit rough sometimes with no referee,” she said.

“My brothers are hard to play against, which makes me a better player and improves my skills.”

Matilda, a Young Sporting Spirit nominee, said she enjoyed football because she liked “running around with my friends and getting to share stories about the game with them”.

“I like the challenge especially playing against the boys and proving that I can do anything my brothers can,” she said.

Matilda would love to play for her country one day.

“I would love to be the Matilda in the Matildas,” she said.

“If Arsenal in the EPL has a girls team I would also love to play for them.”

Nominations for the 2017 Local Sports Stars program have now closed.

Finalists will be announced soon.
