Two former world champion fighters already call the Macarthur region home, but one 12 year old is aspiring to be our next household name.
Harrington Park’s Blair Geraghty is the first Macarthur Chronicle Junior Sports Star nominee of 2019.
The Muay Thai specialist was crowned the Australian Kid’s Fighter of the Year last year, following a stellar bronze-medal performance at the IFMA Youth World Championships in Bangkok.
The Australian representative is now expanding his fighting skill-set, preparing for his boxing debut under the tutelage of former world champion Daniel Geale.
Geraghty said he loved the world of combat sports, a stage he has embraced since the age of five.
“I feel like I was born to fight,” he said. “I love being fit and healthy, pushing my body to the limit and the feeling that I get when sparring and fighting.
“I am very passionate about fighting and I hope one day to be a world champion.
“I also love boxing and would love to go the Olympics and represent Australia.”
The youngster said local fighters Robert Whittaker and Daniel Geale were his two sporting heroes.
“I am inspired by both … for what they have done for combat sports and the role models they are for up and coming athletes.”
The Harrington Park fighter, who trains at Smeaton Grange’s Bujitsu Martial Arts, will launch his boxing career in Tasmania this weekend.
