Australian beach volleyball has a blindingly bright future in the hands of Stefanie Fejes and Jesse Mann.
Despite their youth, the Northern Beaches Volleyball Association representatives have already cemented themselves as two of Australia’s best young volleyballers.
Earlier this year, Stefie, 14, and Jesse, 15 were crowned under-16 national champions at the Australian Junior Beach Volleyball Championships in Bunbury, Western Australia.
Not content with their junior title, the girls also put together a strong performance in the under-21 division to earn a third-place finish against much older and more experienced opponents.
The girls’ senior success came as no surprise to their coach Roger Jones.
“The girls are up for any challenges and have been playing in many open tournaments against players twice their ages,” he said.
“They have attended many long days and weekend beach volleyball competitions in the intense heat, howling winds, and sometimes even pouring rain this season.
“They love the partnership in the sport and support each other on and off the court. They love the fun and inclusive nature of beach volleyball, the community and the mental challenges of each game, which helps them to develop the fundamental skills not only for sport but for life.
“The girls aspire to compete at the next under-21 Asian and World Championships and their ultimate goal is to represent Australia at several Olympic Games.”
Stefie and Jesse are the latest Manly Daily nominees for the 2019 Local Sports Stars competition, which is proudly sponsored by Featherdale Wildlife Park, Northern Beaches Hospital, Bankstown Sports.
