Baton-twirling superstar Renae Edmunds will travel to Canada next month to train with elite athletes and coaches, hoping to take her career to the next level.
The Picnic Point 14-year-old, crowned The Express’ 2015 Junior Sports Star, will head over in preparation for the 2018 World Championships in Orlando, Florida. Her training trip comes on the back of solid performances at the 2016 World Championships in Sweden and the 2015 International Cup in Canada.
She was also crowned national freestyle champion in 2015 and 2016.
Her determination to improve her astonishing skills even further made her this week’s Local Sports Star nominee for Junior Sports Star Individual.
Renae said she enjoyed that the sport was so multifaceted. “I had a natural talent and passion for the sport,” she said. “Baton twirling includes the physical stamina and agility of gymnastics, dance and ballet skills while manipulating a baton, which is one of the reasons I enjoy it so much.”
Renae thanked her coach Jane, her former coaches and parents for their help.
LSS has five categories: Junior Sports Star Individual, Junior Sports Stars Team, Young Sporting Spirit Individual, Young Sporting Spirit Team and Service to Sport.
