CANTERBURY Bankstown Vikings baseballer Harry Fullerton had a season he’ll never forget last year when he played for the Sydney Blue Sox in the Australian Baseball League.
But the 18-year-old will push his young career further this year when he heads to Texas to play for the Odessa College Wranglers in the NJCAA division one competition.
Fullerton impressed Odessa scouts while playing games in a 12-day training camp in Florida last year. Moving on from there, Fullerton hopes to get drafted by a franchise in the US Major League Baseball — the most competitive and prestigious baseball competition in the world.
Because he’ll stop at nothing to achieve his American dream, Fullerton is this week’s Local Sports Star nominee for Junior Sports Star Individual.
“My dad pitched for Sydney so it was really cool to play for them as well last year,” the shortstop said.
“I love the atmosphere around baseball and playing in front of a big crowd. Even though it’s nerve-racking, I love it. So to play in the MLB would just be incredible.”
The talented teen started at six, playing T-ball.
The LSS program has five categories: Junior Sports Star Individual, Junior Sports Stars Team, Young Sporting Spirit Individual, Young Sporting Spirit Team and Service to Sport.
