Baseball and softball may have a lot of similarities, but it’s not easy to dominate at both sports.
Unless you’re Riley Watson that is.
The 15 year old from Quakers Hill is a state representative in both sports- making the NSWCCC softball and baseball sides as well as the NSW All Schools softball team.
He is also well on his way to accomplishing his dream of playing baseball in the US after being invited to take part in a showcase tournament in Arizona later this year. Riley’s dad Cameron says his talent was easy to spot, even as a kid.
“He began playing T-ball at four and just never stopped. He had very good hand-eye coordination, even as a youngster.”
Riley is the latest nominee for the Blacktown Advocate Local Sports Stars award.
The awards are on until August 31. Prizes will be awarded to athletes aged 18 and under across four categories: Junior Sports Star Individual, Junior Sports Star Team, Young Sporting Spirit Individual and Young Sporting Spirit Team. There is also an open-age Service To Sport category.
“Your Local Club is proud to support this program, which shines a light on elite young athletes and the volunteers,” ClubsNSW chief executive Anthony Ball said.
