ONE thing’s for sure — Angelina Sanfilippo cancan skate.

The nine-year-old figure skater from Sandy Point trains at Liverpool Catholic Club Ice Rink three mornings a week, every afternoon and on weekends.

Angelina is also a part of the Liverpool Theatre on Ice Team, and will travel to the Czech Republic this June for skating camp.

She has already won a slew of awards in various competitions this year, including first place in the NSW Artistic Trophy — Elementary Division, overall winner of the NSW Jack Lee Trophy, first place in the Central Coast Artistic Competition’s Elementary Division and first place in the Penrith Artistic.

Angelina’s mother Deanna Sanfilippo said her daughter’s enthusiasm was infectious.

“She arrives at training smiling and she leaves smiling,” Ms Sanfilippo said.

“She is constantly encouraging others and patting them on the shoulder when they’ve done something well.”

Ms Sanfilippo also praised Angelina’s sportsmanship. “At every competition, whether she comes first, second, third or last, she’s happy to skate no matter what,” Ms Sanfilippo said.

“At her last competition she told me she didn’t want to win so she could let the boy who came second to her in two competitions have his chance to win because she loves his routine so much.”

Angelina is this week’s Local Sports Star nominee. If you have a budding young sportsperson at home, or know of someone who is a great coach or inspiration to sports people then nominate them.
