Throughout Kandra Lamb’s softball career, the diamond has always felt like home.
She began playing teeball at four and took up softball with Hornsby District Softball Association when she was 12.
That love and passion for the sport quickly grew into representative achievements as Kandra earned multiple state and national appearances — picking up two state titles, two national titles and three national school girls titles along the way.
Last year the now 18 year old also represented Australia at the Junior Women’s World Championships in Florida.
After deciding she wanted to play college softball in the US, Kandra was put in touch with the head coach at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
“It worked out that coach Glasco saw me play while I was playing with the Australian School Girls’ team when we were playing in Hawaii. He contacted me when he took the head coach’s job,” Kandra said.
“I was excited that I had achieved one of my goals, humbled at receiving an athletics scholarship, and a little terrified that not only am I moving out of home but I am moving to a new country to play in one of the most competitive softball competitions in the world.”
Kandra is the latest nominee for the Hornsby Advocate Local Sports Stars awards.
