A pet food employee repeatedly kicked a security guard in the head and left him unconscious on the street after being booted out of a pub following a boozy night out drinking with a friend.

Waylon Webster, 33, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm after he and a friend were refused alcohol at the Railway Hotel in Liverpool about 3am on January 29 and were escorted out of the pub.

Documents tendered to Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday reveal Webster tried to enter the Golden Fleece hotel next door before he returned and challenged the security guard on why he was refused entry.

Magistrate Julie Zaki said a “fairly serious assault” ensued as a scuffle broke out between Webster and the Railway Hotel security guard which sprawled out into the street.

“The victim fell to the floor and was kicked in the face by Webster while still on the ground and this resulted in a laceration to the victim’s left brow area which started bleeding,” the facts state,

The employee lost consciousness for a short time as two other security guards from surrounding businesses ran over to assist.

“The other security guards managed to grab a hold of Webster and remove him away from the victim,” the facts state.

The facts state Webster continued to linger around the hotel and also suffered minor cuts to the left side of his head while the security guard later regained consciousness.

Police attended the scene and later handcuffed Webster who admitted to hitting the victim first but refused to answer whether he kicked him.

Webster’s lawyer said his client had “very little recollection” of what happened due to his intoxication on the night of the assault.

“This is an incident that was triggered by his excessive consumption of alcohol and an argument with an ex partner,” he said.

Magistrate Zaki said documents tendered to court show Webster was embarrassed and he wanted to apologise to the victim as his actions were uncharacteristic of him.

Webster was convicted and sentenced to a community correction order for a period of 18 months.
