But after a few years, he wanted to return to study.
The then 22-year-old completed the University of Wollongong’s access program with no ATAR.
He was guaranteed a position completing a bachelor degree in exercise science after the program.
And he is about to finish his master’s degree in exercise physiology and rehabilitation. The course holds an entry requirement of a 97 ATAR.
“For someone who began with no ATAR at all, I am pretty proud of that and am living proof that the University of Wollongong college really does work.
Liverpool locals have the chance to get ready for university, free of charge.
With the University of Wollongong’s south western Sydney campus in Liverpool, it is offering its university access program.
Run over 14 weeks, it is designed for those over 21 to develop essential skills for university-level study.
Completing the program provides guaranteed admission into some of the university’s undergraduate degrees.
Applications are now open with the course due to start in November.
