A multimillion-dollar pub has received the green light to become the “social hub” and “focal point” for families in the heart of a growing south west Sydney suburb.

The Austral Hotel, set to feature a bistro and dining area, two function terraces including a lounge, family dining and kids playground, has been granted approval in the Land and Environment Court.

The venue will be located at 352-362 Bringelly Rd, Austral – a site purchased by Ben Issac and his brother Jono in 2017 with the initial vision of building a service station.

Now the duo, which owns the prestigious Boathouse Group with ten up-market venues across Sydney, plan to deliver a pub to the fast-growing community.

Ben Isaac said a family-run pub was the perfect venue to be based at the site.

“When we bought in 2017 Austral was very different and we knew there was going to be huge growth with the international airport and more housing divisions planned,” he said.

“We wanted to give the people of Austral a place to gather together and the key to any community is to give residents the confidence they’re not living on the outskirts without any amenities.”

Mr Isaac said the development would be a “family-friendly hotel”, run by the Isaac family.

“If you don’t have the ability for people to catch up and meet with friends in a family-friendly environment it really affects the livelihood of those communities.”

He said the Austral pub would be a “hybrid pub” where parents can sit down and have a drink while their kids are entertained over a good meal with friends.

“The food component is really important and often overlooked in the past with pubs but we want the Austral pub to be a place for locals and people out of the area to travel to and get an amazing feed,” he said.

“We also want to do a good sports offering and have the different components that make it successful including a beer garden or spaces for people to duck in for a couple of quick beers.”

The pub will also feature a sports bar, sports terrace and outdoor gaming area and bar and basement parking with 180 spaces.

The venue would have a maximum capacity of 900 patrons with up to 40 staff. The proposed operating hours are from 9am to 1am Monday to Saturday and 10am to midnight on Sunday.

Mr Isaac said residents could expect to wait to 2026 to enjoy the watering hole, with hopes the 18-month construction project would begin in the next six to 12 months.
