Southwest Sydney is in for a sugar high with the opening of not one, but two, new Tella Balls dessert bars in the region.
The popular eatery recently opened its doors next to Western Sydney University’s new campus in Liverpool with queues forming within minutes.
It is the second store to open in the southwest as part of Tella Balls creators Aki Daikos and Simon Kappatos’ foray into the west, joining its sister store at Stockland Wetherill Park.
Tella Balls Dessert Bar first opened in Dulwich Hill and has now expanded across the state as foodies clamour to get their fix of its signature drink, the Tella Ball shake, a Nutella milkshake topped with a Nutella doughnut.
But fans of the eatery are in for a treat — a savoury one, that is.
Tella Balls has launched a savoury menu that includes mouth-watering savoury crepes with a choice of southern fried chicken, falafel, a beef patty or steak fillings.
Mr Daikos said the response has been “phenomenal”.
“It’s definitely beyond our expectations and we’re very proud of that,” he said.
Mr Kappatos said the new menu items struck a “nice balance” between savoury and sweet.
“It’s like when you’re having your sweet bread with your burgers. People have really embraced it,” he said.
It’s not the only addition to the menu; sweet tooths will be in heaven with new Fruit Loops and Maltesers Tella Balls to choose from as well as the Golden Gaytime Tella Balls slider, gluten-free Nutella cakes and Coco Pops waffles, Reese’s Pieces crepes and Wagon Wheel pancakes.
Mr Daikos and Mr Kappatos, both passionate foodies who have been in the industry for 23 years, said the dessert bars have been a hit with people young and old.
“We’ve both had successful cafes and restaurants in the past and this was our dream ‒ to create something amazing, something that’s never been done before and hence the reason why we’ve grown so fast in two years,” Mr Daikos said.
