Head to the Casula Powerhouse this month and discover new worlds.

The Sydney Film Festival has partnered with the arts facility to bring eight sessions — including feature-length films, documentaries and short films — from June 9-17.

Festival director Nashen Moodley said the screenings at Casula allowed the festival to expand its geographical reach to southwest Sydney audiences.

“We work closely with Casula on the selection of the films and we try to, to an extent, tailor the selection for the audience of the Casula Powerhouse and at the same time challenge that audience and show some films that are unexpected because that’s what the festival is about,” Mr Moodley said.

“The festival is about discovery and seeing the types of cinema that you wouldn’t ordinarily be able to see.”

Casula Powerhouse director Craig Donarski pointed to the diversity of this year’s curated program.

“The festival will screen an excellent line-up of feature-length films, including a second chance to see the 2018 opening night selection, the side-splittingly funny New Zealand film The Breaker Upperers directed by Taika Waititi,” he said.

“You can also experience the award-winning drama Wajib, which is also competing in the festival’s official competition; a supernatural young adult thriller The Changeover, starring Timothy Spall and Lucy Lawless; the powerhouse drama The Wife and the charming romantic film Puzzle,” he said.

Evening screenings will be paired with meals prepared by Bellbird Dining and Bar head chef Federico Rekowski, offering a multisensory experience.

Casula Powerhouse, Liverpool Council and Sydney Film Festival have partnered for more than three years to bring festival films to southwest Sydney audiences.
