Taboka Tshuma has never let a challenge stand in the way of his dreams of playing football.
Taboka competed in Division 3 club football with the Liverpool City Robins, scoring an average of two goals per game in 2015, before competing for rival teams during the 2016 PlayStation 4 National Premier League season.
His father Manuel said his son’s first year of representative football had tested him as he played for Sydney United 58 for the first half of the season, before moving to the Bonnyrigg White Eagles.
“Taboka has gone through many challenges,” Tshuma said.
“It took many trials and many rejections before Sydney United 58 allowed him to trial.”
In his first match with Bonnyrigg against his former club, Taboka scored his first NPL goal to secure the team’s victory.
“The ball went through a deflection before it entered the goal, so Taboka wasn’t given the goal under his name, but to all watching it was clearly Taboka who had carried the team to victory,” Mr Tshuma added.
Mr Tshuma said his son’s persistence was remarkable, and an inspiration to other athletes.
“Taboka teaches us that if we persist and continue to strive for our goals we will reach them,” Mr Tshuma said.
