HIS opponent has beaten him twice before, but will it be third time’s a charm for Danny “Lil Reaper” Roberts this Saturday?
The 30-year old mixed martial arts fighter will be eyeing up Wade Sciberras for the Martial Arts Sports Association’s K1 lightweight state title — and this time Roberts is prepared and got a score to settle.
“It’s going to be a lot different this time round,” Roberts said.
“I’ve spent a lot of time getting my head in the right spot and my coaches have finetuned my fight style to coincide with how he fights,” he said.
“I’ll try and stay away from his strengths and explore his weaknesses.”
After years of taekwondo, Roberts said he fell in love with the culture and respect of Muay Thai and switched disciplines four years ago.
He’s risen through the ranks, started his own Bujutsu gym in Hoxton Park, and now he’s been invited to vie for his first title fight.
When he enters the ring, Roberts will also be fighting for a good cause — Fighting for Autism.
“It’s an important charity to get behind,” he said.
Roberts will face Sciberras on Saturday. For tickets phone Tim on 0414 611 097 or contact the Beachcomber Hotel on 4397 1300.
