A young mum on her P-plates will learn her fate after pleading guilty to performing a burnout in an illegally modified car with her baby in the back seat.

Samantha Anne Stephenson, 24, was with her partner when she was spotted by police doing a large burnout at a Krispy Kreme carpark on Orange Grove Rd, Liverpool, about 10.50pm on Friday, June 28.

When highway patrol officers stopped Stephenson they discovered a 10-month-old child seated in the back of the car.

Stephenson today pleaded guilty to interfere with person’s enjoyment or risk safety at Liverpool Local Court.

Accompanied by two supporters, she hid her face and did not respond to questions from waiting media outside the court.

Highway patrol officers were patrolling around The Grove Homemaker Centre in Liverpool when Stephenson caught their attention.

“As police entered the driveway of the location, police heard an engine revving loudly and observed a green coloured Holden Commodore … travelling slowly towards them with a large amount of white smoke bellowing from the rear offside wheel,” a police fact sheet stated.

Officers also noted a “single thick black tyre rubber mark approximately 10m long” left in the wake of the car, according to the fact sheet.

“At this time there were a large number of parked and mobile vehicles attending and leaving the location, with a large number of pedestrians in close proximity of the accused’s vehicle during the sustained loss of traction,” it read.

When asked for her licence, Stephenson told police: “It’s at home”.

Court documents reveal the P-plater did not have her plates displayed at the time either.

The situation went further downhill for the Airds woman when police examined the car, finding the six-cylinder engine had been replaced with a modified V8 engine and only a partial exhaust system had been fitted.

Stephenson was fined and the car was issued with a major grounded vehicle defect. Her licence was suspended.

The matter was adjourned to March 16 for sentencing.
