FOR futsal player Connor Gargoulo, passion is everything.
The 11-year-old representative player from West Hoxton picked up futsal when he was just eight years old.
“In the soccer off-season a few of my friends and I wanted to form a team and continue playing as we didn’t want to wait for the soccer season to restart,” Connor said.
“So we decided to play in the local futsal comp at the Whitlam Centre in Liverpool.”
Three years later, Connor is preparing to represent his country at the National Futsal Titles in Malaysia in May.
“During the year I train and compete for both indoor and outdoor soccer six days a week,” Connor said.
“The more I learn, the more I love the game.”
The young star also plays as the goalkeeper at a representative level for the Macarthur Rams.
“I love futsal as it is a very quick game and as a goalkeeper I am more involved in the game,” Connor said.
“With the futsal field being shorter than a soccer field, there is a lot more action.”
Connor said the key to success was concentration.
“You need to be able to read the game and make quick snap decisions while applying your technique and skills to each play,” Connor said.
Connor is this week’s Local Sports Star nominee.
