Southwest Sydney: Pair charged following police probe into property theft

A man and woman have been charged following investigations into a string of theft-related offences in Sydney’s southwest, with police using a GPS tracker on a stolen laptop to find them.

A man and woman have been arrested after investigations into break-ins, car theft and stealing offences led police to a hotel in Sydney’s southwest.

Police investigating a string of theft-related offences across Camden, Liverpool and Parramatta between November and December used a GPS tracking device from an Apple laptop, allegedly stolen, to find the pair.

On Monday they tracked the computer to a hotel in Prestons, where they arrested a 37-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman.

The man will appear in Parramatta Local Court.

A search of the room allegedly uncovered the stolen Apple laptop, $585 in cash, a replica pistol, stolen mobile phones and a small amount of drugs.

A stolen Lexus was also found in the carpark outside the hotel room.

The man was charged with firearm possession, take conveyance without consent of owner, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, drug possession, and dishonestly obtain property by deception.

He was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court today.

The woman was charged with being carried in a conveyance without consent and drug possession.

She was given conditional bail and will appear in Liverpool Local Court on January 23, 2020.
