The victim was treated by NSW Ambulance and brought to Liverpool Hospital where she underwent surgery for multiple injuries, including two fractured vertebrae which required six permanent crews and two titanium rods.

“The victim suffered a broken right clavicle, fractured sternum, fractured sixth, seventh and ninth left ribs as well as other minor bruising and abrasions,” the facts state.

Magistrate Gareth Christofi said the collision was “not a result of dangerous or reckless driving but rather a momentary lapse of attention”.

“But it did amount to an act of negligence … for someone driving for the last 20 years she has a small number of matters on her record, noting her speeding offences,” he said.

He noted the severity of the victim’s injuries and commended Put for her acceptance of responsibility.

“While she may superficially recover as bones will heal, getting that number of broken bones including vertebrae would infer the recovery will be long, painful and some permanent loss of mobility,” he said.

“To her credit Ms Put has written a detailed letter to court … ‘I wish to apologise sincerely, I often think of that day and I’ve prayed for her recovery’.”

Put was accompanied by one female supporter and remained silent as Magistrate Christofi handed down his sentence.

She was convicted, fined $1000 and sentenced to an 18 month community correction order where she must perform 100 hours of community service work.

A separate charge of not giving way to an oncoming vehicle was withdrawn and dismissed.
