TWO children have been transferred to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead after an horrific crash that killed their mother yesterday.
Police continue to investigate the death of the woman in a two car crash at Voyager Point yesterday afternoon.
Police said early investigations indicated the 41-year-old woman driving a Toyota Corolla had collided with a Mitsubishi 4WD at the intersection of Heathcote Road and The Avenue. She died at the scene.
This afternoon police from Liverpool LAC confirmed the two passengers in the car driven by the woman were her children, aged 14 and 10.
They were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Liverpool Hospital before being transferred to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
The male driver of the Mitsubishi was uninjured.
Detective Sergeant Brendan Sharwood from Liverpool LAC said investigators had spoken with a number of witnesses at the scene along with the driver of the 4WD.
A crime scene was established and Heathcote Road was closed for some time for police investigations.
Last night Holsworthy state Liberal MP Melanie Gibbons expressed her condolences to the victim’s family and said she would meet with the Roads, Maritime and Freight Minister to discuss ways to prevent further tragedies.
In a post on Facebook she stated: “My thoughts and prayers are with the family, and I’d also like to thank everyone who rushed to help.”
“I have contacted the Minister for Roads — and will aim to meet with her while we are in Parliament tomorrow to find out if anything can be done to stop this happening again.
“Our upgrade plans for Heathcote Road (including Voyager Point) are underway and progressing well but I want to make sure our community is as safe as possible in the meantime.”
The proposed Heathcote Rd upgrade includes widening and upgrading Heathcote Road between Infantry Parade and The Avenue to a four lane divided road, and upgrading the Macarthur Drive and The Avenue intersections to traffic light intersections.
