NSW Budget 2018: Western Sydney Parkland City secures multi-million housing, parkland and environmental research facility

WESTERN Sydney Parklands City will be established as the next powerhouse master planned community, following record amounts of funding as part of the State and Federal Government’s Western Sydney City Deal.
A $60 million State Government contribution to the $150 million Western Sydney Parkland City Liveability Program was announced as part of the 2018 budget, working to deliver community infrastructure and public spaces that “promote healthy, active lifestyles and support the arts and culture” alongside a new housing supply.
NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet also announced a $15 million contribution to the $30 million Western Sydney Parkland City Housing package, “to ensure sustainable growth through streamlined and optimised planning”.
The State Government have also set aside $59.5 million to construct a Western Sydney Centre of Innovation in Plant Sciences for a 1.4 million plant specimen bank in Sydney’s West.
Mr Perrottet also revealed plans to activate and link parklands across the Western Sydney City, through a $5.9 million spend over the next year to “improve play and recreational areas, and restore and expand on bushland corridor”.
Western Sydney Minister Stuart Ayres said local communities in Sydney’s West were the biggest winners in the NSW Budget for 2018.
Mr Ayres said the Budget would drive growth, create jobs and enhance opportunities for more than two million people.
“No longer taken for granted, no longer second best, this budget reinforces the Western Sydney is now leading the way when it comes to the NSW Economy,” he said.
“This Budget matches a growing Western Sydney with the jobs, infrastructure and essential services required to continue to increase prosperity and opportunities for local residents.”
