The wait continues for a primary school planned for Liverpool and two new schools in Edmondson Park as the region faces ‘significant’ demand for public school enrolments.

Work on two new primary schools and a high school in Liverpool remain in the early planning stages amid strong enrolment demand across the region.

A NSW Education Department spokesman said “final site selection” was pending, and investigations and option analysis were currently underway.

Site selection was based on the suitability of available land and student enrolment projections for the school and surrounding areas, the spokesman said.

Sites have not yet been selected for two new primary schools and a high school in Liverpool.

“The Department of Education is undertaking due diligence to assess availability and suitability of land for the purpose of providing these new schools.

“Once the sites have been decided, the projects will progress through design phases that will ensure the best use is made of each site.”

The department has prioritised a number of new and upgraded schools to “meet the significant enrolment demand” in Liverpool, the spokesman said.

Schools undergoing upgrades include Mainsbridge School for Specific Purposes, Marsden Road Public School and Liverpool West Public School.

Liverpool is experiencing an education boom, with the University of Wollongong and Western Sydney University based in the CBD and plans for a ‘multiversity’ in the Western Sydney Aerotropolis at Badgerys Creek.

In June, Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said the city should be considered for a new selective school announced for southwest Sydney.

The location of the school is yet to be determined.

“With the number of residents expected to double in the city centre, there will be an even greater demand for a local selective high school to accommodate our brightest students,” she said.
