An Illawarra man told his partner to “stop acting like a dumb c**t” before he pulled out a serrated knife and repeatedly slapped her until she blacked out in a carpark, a court had heard.

Nathan Raymond Lamont, 35, was charged with stalking and intimidation, custody of a knife in a public place and two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm after he rendered a woman unconscious at the Pritchard’s hotel carpark in Mount Pritchard on January 23.

Lamont appeared before Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday via audio visual link as his lawyer made an application for bail.

Magistrate Stuart Devine said police allege Lamont was in a relationship with the victim and the pair drove together to Mount Pritchard to visit someone.

“While in the car the accused said to the victim to ‘stop being a dumb c**t’ and grabbed her by the right forearm which left red marks and caused immediate pain,” Mr Devine said.

Mr Devine said Lamont allegedly showed the woman a serrated knife in the passenger side compartment before he parked the car at the Pritchard Hotel.

“He said ‘I’m gonna smash your head in’ and he pulled her hair and slapped her on the face three times which rendered her unconscious,” Mr Devine read from the police facts.

Once the woman woke up, she ran to a nearby Red Rooster before Lamont allegedly wrapped his arms around her neck and dragged her to the floor.

Mr Devine said a witness at the fast-food chain asked the woman if she was okay but Lamont told them to “f**k off’ as he continued to tug on her shirt until they reached the car.

The court heard he continued to slap the woman which left “bruising on the left eye and bruising to the face” as the witness began recording on their phone and observed her “crying” and “yelling help”.

When police arrived they found a 20cm knife in the passenger side of the vehicle and arrested Lamont.

Lamont’s lawyer said her client has strong ties to the community and had issues with the victim’s version of events.

“He says she was intoxicated at the time which could have trouble with her credibility as a witness,” she said.

The police prosecutor opposed bail as they held concerns he would not attend court and said Lamont re-entering the community would “endanger the victim”.

“The victim was pulled back into the car after escaping and continued to be assaulted,” the prosecutor said.

Magistrate Devine said the prosecution’s case was “strong” and denied Lamont bail.

The matter was adjourned for February 6 at Liverpool Local Court.
