A beloved general practitioner who dedicated his career to serving the Liverpool community for 50 years has been remembered as “one in a million” after his battle with cancer.

Dr ‘Ken’ Kai Shing Cho, who had a private practice in Moorebank and Hammondville and served at Hammond Care in Hammondville, died at the age of 91 on January 19 following a brief illness with pancreatic cancer.

Mr Cho’s family said their father will be remembered by the community for his “kindness and a life lived in service to others.”

“He often told us that his patients were also his family and how much he loved them and his work,” his family said in a statement.

“He cared for generations of families in the area and we know you share our grief at this time.”

Mr Cho leaves behind his wife Diane Cho, children Esther, Alice, Henry and Lucy and his grandchild Yogesh who said their beloved ‘Dai Gor’ - Cantonese for older brother - will be “forever in our hearts”.

An outpouring of grief from the Liverpool community has flooded social media, with hundreds of patients sharing memories of their “friend and family doctor” of more than two decades.

One patient who saw Dr Cho for 20 years said he “always had a laugh” and would ask about family members he hadn’t seen in years.

“All my children grew up with him and you can’t find doctors now that know all your children and grandchildren,” she said.

Another said Dr Cho was her family doctor for more than 30 years who would be “dearly missed”.
