A revived multimillion dollar vision for 671 homes to be built across a series of high-rise residential apartment towers in Middleton Grange has been given a first tick of approval by the NSW Government.

The plans by Manta Group include as many as eight multistorey towers on the 7.9 hectare site just outside the Liverpool CBD.

It was issued gateway determination at the end of 2020 following a series of objections from Liverpool Council — which withdrew support for the project in December 2018.

The planning proposal, originally submitted to Liverpool Council in June 2015, for

60-80 Southern Cross Ave and 45-66 Hall Cct, Middleton Grange also includes a series of low density residential homes, shops and office space, a medical and health centre as well as more than 7500sq m of open space as part of the revised plans.

A Manta Group planner said the plans were earmarked to “facilitate the development of the Middleton Grange town centre” and to create a vibrant town centre for local existing and new residents.

“The town centre will incorporate mixed use buildings, providing opportunities for retail and

commercial investment within the Middleton Grange Town Centre,” the planner said.

“It will incorporate retail uses such as a supermarket, specialty retail, cafes and coffee shops and restaurants.”

The maximum building heights proposed as part of the revised development has reduced from 11 to eight storeys at the centre of the development, while the area of open space within the proposal was been doubled.

“This provided the opportunity for variety in use of public spaces and creates a focal

point for the community,” the planner said of the revised proposal.

NSW Planning director, Adrian Hohenzollern said council referred the revised planning proposal to the department in December.

“The Department is required to improve processing times for planning proposals to reduce uncertainty for the community,” he said. “The Department has altered the Gateway determination to ensure the proposal is forwarded to the Department for finalisation by 30 April 2021.”

NSW Planning is looking to finalise the plans by June.
