Local restaurateurs have a responsibility to match the pace of Liverpool’s urban transformation with exciting new venues, says Max Luciano, who is leading the charge in developing the city’s food scene.

The Liverpool resident recently launched his newest dining venue, complete with a cocktail bar, an outdoor lounge and private function rooms in a contemporary setting.

The Spot, at 296-306 Macquarie St, will soon also incorporate Mr Luciano’s other business, popular eatery The Spot Chocolate Bar.

Mr Luciano said the new venue was “in a league of its own”.

“The bar and grill has been in the making probably in the last seven years of me operating in Liverpool. To me, it’s a statement that I’ve wanted to make for Liverpool.”

He said it was important for the city to have a night life, especially with the development occurring in the CBD.

“We spend a lot of our time outside of Liverpool and that’s because we’re not providing what the community wants, what the consumers want and it’s ambience.

“It’s a night life that’s abuzz, it’s that culture where we can stay close to home and get the same experience that we tried to get from Parramatta, we tried to get from the city, from Burwood.

“Council’s doing a lot and from the restaurateurs and the people in the hospitality industry, it’s our duty and our job as well to be able to develop and to grow with Liverpool,” he said.

The Spot can cater for private events, birthdays, weddings and corporate functions, and also offers shisha.

The menu is extensive with crowd-pleasers such pasta, pizzas and steaks, elegant dishes for a niche audience — such as the Alaskan king crab with creamy coconut, onion, capsicum, chilli, capers and lemon — and The Spot’s signature desserts.

The bar provides alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and a range of cocktails.

Mr Luciano said The Spot was designed to be an escape from the daily grind, where diners could grab a quick coffee, enjoy a meal or indulge in desserts at night.
