Security guards will escort Liverpool Council employees to their vehicles after a staff member was allegedly stabbed in the back with a pair of scissors inside a carpark.
NSW Police confirmed a 51-year-old man had attended Liverpool Police Station with stab wounds after 7am on Thursday.
“Police were told he was approached by a man in the carpark at Warren Service Way, Liverpool, before he was stabbed once with a pair of scissors,” a NSW Police spokesman said.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the council employee before taking him to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.
Police have established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the incident.
It is not yet clear whether the man is believed to have been targeted because of his employment.
In a message to council staff, seen by this masthead, acting chief executive Farooq Portelli said council understood the staff member was “well enough” to take themselves to Liverpool Police Station and to Liverpool Hospital.
Mr Portelli said the council’s executive leadership team would “continue to refine security at the carpark in response to feedback from staff”.
“Currently the brief is for the (security) guards to do roving patrols, assist with stranded customers, escort anyone to their cars including our staff, removing shopping trolleys and report any anti-social behaviour,” he said.
The council and the United Services Union have been contacted for comment.
