A music YouTuber drank two bottles of red wine before he harassed a 13-year-old student on a school bus, repeatedly asking for her number and to follow him on social media.

Kiran Michael Ghimire, 40, was sentenced at Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to harassing and intimidating a student attending school following the incident on a morning school bus on May 26, near Liverpool train station.

Documents tendered to court state Ghimire sat directly in front of the schoolgirl on an empty bus and pointed to her mobile phone and asked “you have a number?”.

The girl – who was in uniform – was confused by the question and removed her headphones before she responded “yes”.

“Ghimire asked the girl ‘you give to me? and she was made to feel extremely uncomfortable by the question and responded bluntly, ‘no’,” the facts state.

The 40-year-old persisted and asked the girl for her number on a further two occasions, including after the victim thought the conversation had ended.

Ghimire continued to harass the student and told her to subscribe to his YouTube channel, @kimranmichaelofficial – a now unavailable channel where he composed music.

She subscribed to the channel and immediately blocked the account before showing Ghimire who appeared visibly pleased, smiled at her and gave her two thumbs up, the facts state.

A friend of the student boarded the bus and the pair moved to the back to avoid Ghimire as he attempted to make conversation.

“The student feared Ghimire would be able to find her as he had made note of her school emblem and was persistent with obtaining contact details from her,” the facts state.

Magistrate Andrew Miller said the student’s rejection “did not deter (Ghimire)”.

“(Ghimire) is a middle aged male who approached a female schoolgirl on a bus and that in itself can be intimidating, let alone asking for her details and imposing his details,” Mr Miller said.

“He may be a YouTube content creator but it doesn’t mean he should approach school girls.”

Ghimire’s lawyer said his client had hardly any recollection of the conversation as he consumed two bottles of red wine when he decided to catch the bus to see a friend living in Prestons.

He said his client was on a student visa and had arrived in Australia from Nepal in March and has commenced treatment with a psychologist to “familiarise himself with Australian rules and mannerisms”.

Ghimire was convicted and was fined $500. Charges of wilfully interfering with the comfort or safety of others and stalk/intimidation were withdrawn.
