How do juries decide a verdict?

A southwest Sydney mum allegedly caught on CCTV camera stabbing a man on Anzac Day has appeared in court.

Mum-of-four Jessica Pfitzner, 26, of Cartwright has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm, and break and enter house etc destroy property.

Magistrate Les Mabbutt told the Liverpool Local Court the charge of wounding was the most severe and where the police prosecution’s case was strongest.

The alleged stabbing took place at Elderslie on Anzac Day, between 5.30pm and 8pm, according to police charges filed in court.

The court heard the alleged victim of the stabbing did not report the incident to police.

Two days later, on April 27, Pfitzner is alleged to have intimidated a different victim, via a phone call.

That same day, Pfitzner is alleged to have broken and entered a home of a third victim, damaging a glass shaving cabinet mirror, wardrobe doors, and the front door lockset of the property.

Pfitzner was arrested the following day.

In relation to the wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm charge, the court heard Pfitzner was allegedly captured on camera holding a sharp object injuring somebody else.

“It doesn’t appear to be a weak prosecution case,” Magistrate Mabbutt said.

The police prosecutor raised several bail concerns in court, including a risk of Pfitzner failing to attend — having previously missed court appearances — as well as a potential danger to the community if Pfitzner was released on bail.

Magistrate Mabbutt denied Pfitzner’s bail application.

“Taking those matters into account, the nature of seriousness of the first charge, we simply cannot come to the view that any bail conditions could alleviate concerns,” he said.

Pfitzner is next set to appear in Campbelltown Court on June 22 for a committal hearing.
