A multimillion-dollar commercial development featuring a childcare centre, petrol station and gymnasium, set to generate 160 new jobs in Sydney’s southwest, has received the green light.
Liverpool Council approved the $16m plans which will see two fast food outlets, a cafe and a light industrial complex on 555 Fifteenth Ave in Austral, after a development application was lodged by Austral Commercial Projects in 2020.
Construction is set to begin in 2027 and will be completed in three stages.
Planning documents recognise the site as a “city-shaping corridor”, part of council’s Fifteenth Ave Smart Transit Corridor (FAST) project linking Liverpools’ CBD to the future Western Sydney Nancy Bird Walton airport.
Documents lodged with council state the well-designed project would be consistent with the area’s future character and would establish a “high benchmark” for future developments.
Council’s vision for the FAST corridor to be “green and landscaped focused” and provide “visual relief, amenity and privacy”.
The childcare centre will be open from 6:30am to 7pm Monday to Friday, catering for a maximum of 94 children including 24 children aged zero to two, 30 children aged two to three, and 40 children aged three and over.
The veterinary hospital will operate from 6am to 7pm seven days a week. The service station, two fast food outlets and gymnasium will be open 24 hours per day.
An existing house, previously used for poultry farming, will be demolished as part of the plans.
Planners for Austral Commercial Projects state the development was in the public interest and aligned with the “desired future character of the site.
