Liverpool’s first pump track facility — a specially designed circuit for BMX and mountain bike riders — has received a $1.4 million injection from the Federal Government.
The project is slated for Schoeffel Park in Horningsea Park, which is set to undergo a $2.2 million transformation with plans for a children’s playground, outdoor gym equipment, picnic tables and park furniture, footpaths and a carpark with 20 spaces.
The pump track will be one of the park’s main highlights, providing a continuous circuit for users to ride, skate, scoot or rollerblade without pedalling.
Work is set to begin in December after Liverpool City Council received $1.4 million in funding under the federal government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program to fast-track the delivery of the project.
“Schoeffel Park, in Horningsea Park, will be home to Liverpool’s first asphalt pump track – an inclusive riding space for people to BMX and mountain bike on a continuous circuit of loops, turns, berms and mounds designed to maintain speed without the rider pedalling,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said.
Cr Waller said the park will provide an environment for families and visitors to enjoy the outdoors.
“Council is always lobbying for infrastructure funding to support our growing community.”
Werriwa federal Labor MP Anne Stanley, who helped secure the funding, said the Schoeffel Park complex will focus on fitness, landscaping and recreational amenities.
“The Liverpool area is such a beautiful part of the world, and facilities that encourage the local community to get out, spend time with loved ones and increase their exercise should be supported,” Ms Stanley said.
