An aspiring entrepreneur has been called a “fool” in court after he was caught speeding 123km/h down a major highway in a late night drag race.

Harout Bazarjian, 21, of Rydalmere. pleaded guilty to organising a race between vehicles and driving more than 45km/h above the speed limit on a green P-plate licence after he was discovered street racing with a Holden Commodore along the Hume Hwy about 9:56pm on May 1.

Documents tendered to Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday state Bankstown Highway Patrol clocked Bazarjian driving 123km/h in a silver BMW.

Magistrate Miranda Moody said “idiotic” behaviour ensued as Bazarjian and the Holden driver began revving their engines and exhausts “excessively” during their race side-by-side.

“Neither vehicle lost or gained distance on each other throughout the duration of the race,” the facts state.

When police approached Bazarjian, he told police: “A guy started going quicker and I wanted to keep up with him”.

He also undertook a breath test which returned a negative result.

Magistrate Moody told Bazarjian his reply to police was “an idiotic and stupid response”.

“It was short lived and involved two young fools,” she said.

Bazarjian’s lawyer Mr Nazanan told the court his client had no criminal history and had aspirations to start his own business as a videographer.

Bazarjian was convicted and was ordered to pay a $1100 fine and was disqualified from holding a driver’s licence for four months.
