The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

A 29-year-old man who allegedly crashed a white Lamborghini into two cars during a police chase in Sydney’s southwest has appeared in court.

Police allege Andre Kallita, of Cecil Hills, failed to stop for police about 9:15pm on Sunday which saw officers from Liverpool Highway Patrol begin a pursuit on Cowpasture Rd, between Green Valley and Middleton Grange.

According to charges filed in court the pursuit lasted all of five minutes, with Kallita estimated to be travelling more than 45km/h over the limit, all while holding a disqualified licence.

Police say the chase ended when the Lamborghini crashed into a black Jeep and black Audi sedan. Kallita allegedly attempted to run away before he was tracked down by police officers and subdued with pepper spray.

Police will allege the man resisted arrest, and assaulted an officer during the tussle. The occupants of the other cars involved in the crash were treated for minor injuries.

Kallita was taken to Liverpool Hospital where he was also treated for minor injuries, before being taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with eight offences, including driving while disqualified, speeding more than 45km/h, not stopping for a police pursuit, and assaulting a police officer.

His lawyer, Julie Nguyen, appeared before Liverpool court today, and requested a four-week adjournment to speak with her client.

The magistrate granted her two weeks instead. The matter will return to the same court on September 19. Bail was not applied for and it was formally refused.
