Residents in the southwest Sydney growth suburbs of Edmondson Park and Bardia will have access to a new AFL field and playground as part of a $4.5 million upgrade of Mont St Quentin Oval.
Developer Landcom has begun work on the multimillion-dollar project, which will deliver a full-sized AFL field, amenities building, barbecue facilities and an inclusive children’s playground at the historic site.
The upgrade is expected to be completed by late 2021.
The oval forms part of the Ingleburn Military Heritage Precinct and was once used as the main parade ground for the Ingleburn Army Camp.
“Landcom is thrilled to deliver this $4.5 million upgrade to Mont St Quentin Oval, which will provide a fantastic new meeting, playing and exercise space for the current and future residents of Edmondson Park,” Landcom chief executive John Brogden said.
Interpretative signs incorporating historical colours used in military awards and decorations will be installed to celebrate the site’s history.
“Great open spaces are essential to encourage people to get outside to enjoy the fresh air and to live an active, healthy lifestyle, so I’m delighted to see these works now underway for the benefit of the Edmondson Park community,” Mr Brogden said.
Roadworks are also underway to extend Buchan Ave between Faulkner Way and Soldiers Pde, which will include footpaths, a cycle lane and on-street carparking.
The works are due to be completed by early next year.
