Two meth labs found, three men arrested by police

A co-ordinated police raid across southwest Sydney uncovered two meth labs and resulted in three arrests. Police seized cash, drugs and cage roosters suspected of being used in illegal cock fights

Meth drug labs uncovered, three arrested

Caged roosters found when police raided a south west Sydney meth lab may have been used in illegal cock fights, police suspect.

A seven-month investigation culminated yesterday in three arrests and the discovery of two clandestine drug laboatories at Cecil Hills and Kemps Creek.

A number of roosters were found in large wire cages behind the semi-rural Kemps Creek property. Sources said investigators have found information to suggest the animals may have been used in cock fights.

Strike Force Knauer uncovered the drug labs after stopping a vehicle at Cecil Hills yesterday, at the corner of Elizabeth Dr and Windsor Rd.

Police dogs helped search the car and found $10,000 in cash.

Thang Tri Pham, the 46-year-old driver, was arrested and taken to Liverpool Police Station.

The Public Order and Riot Squad then helped co-ordinate three raids across southwest Sydney, including at a nearby home at Cecil Hills, another home at Bankstown and at a rural property at Kemps Creek.

Police also located 400-litres of a liquid that presumptively tested positive for methylamphetamine.

The drug labs were dismantled by the Chemical Operations Team and specialist forensic officers.

The RSPCA was also called to check up on animals — mainly roosters and dogs — found at the Kemps Creek property.

More than 300 items were seized at the properties, including equipment and chemicals typically used in drug production, 4L of GBL, 170g of MDMA, and 100g of methylamphetamine.

Nhut Mihn LAI, 42, was arrested at 10.30am at the Bankstown home.

He was charged with 17 offences, including possess drug manufacture apparatus make prohibited drug, participate criminal group contribute criminal activity, eight counts of supply prohibited drug, three counts of possess prohibited drug, two counts of deal with property proceeds of crime, two counts of supply prohibited drug commercial quantity and two counts of possess prohibited drug.

Huy Nguyen, 28, attended the Bankstown home at 1.40pm.

Police charged him after allegedly finding a replica pistol in his car.

Both men will present to Bankstown Local Court today.

Police charged Thang Tri Pham with knowingly/recklessly direct criminal group assist crime, eight counts of supply prohibited drug, knowingly deal with proceeds of crime, and manufacture prohibited drug (large commercial quantity).

He will present to Liverpool Local Court today.
