A known-drug user in Sydney’s southwest has been busted driving under the influence of methamphetamine has avoided a conviction.
David Lam, 44, was driving a Toyota Landcruiser along Burdett St, Canley Heights on November 17 when he was stopped by police officers for a random test.
Police facts tendered to court state Lam recorded a negative reading, but when he was submitted to an oral fluid test he recorded a positive reading for methamphetamine .
“Checks conducted on Lam in addition to his behaviour and admission of being a regular heroin user provided police with grounds to submit his vehicle to a search,” police facts state.
The 44-year-old was taken to Fairfield police station where he submitted a secondary oral fluid test which also recorded positive for methamphetamine.
He was sentenced to a 18-month conditional release order without conviction.
For a seperate incident on March 11, Lam was convicted of drug possession after he was noticed by police officers standing outside a Cabramatta unit complex well known for drug supply.
While talking to police, Lam was holding a vacuum cleaner box with a clear plastic bag containing a single bud of cannabis, weighing 1.02g, wrapped in gladwrap.
He was convicted and fined $500.
