A labourer’s “serious” driving record has been chastised by a Sydney magistrate, who warned a “brain snap” was no excuse for speeding while on a suspended licence.
Daniel James Spicer, 25, of Greendale, appeared before Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to driving on a suspended licence after he was caught reaching speeds of 98km/h on Eastwood Rd, Leppington - which has a 70km/h speed limit - on August 29.
Court documents state when he was pulled over by Highway Patrol police officers he couldn’t produce a licence, saying he had left it at home.
Following further checks, police found Spicer’s licence was suspended from April until October for speeding more than 45km/h above the speed limit.
The P-plater was issued an infringement notice for the offence of speeding over 20km/h.
Magistrate Cathy Tawagi told Spicer his traffic record was serious.
“There have been some tragic accidents in this area because young men decide to get in their car and speed,” she said.
Mr Spicer said the last few months “have been bad” and he hadn’t been himself following the “loss: of his partner.
Spicer’s matter was adjourned for him to participate in the traffic offender program and will return to Liverpool Local Court on October 25.
