Two staff members at Liverpool Hospital have tested positive for coronavirus.

The affected area is undergoing deep cleaning and close contacts have been identified and are now self-isolating.

Fairfield Mayor Frank Carbone confirmed the new infections on social media and urged the community to get tested if they have symptoms.

It comes after 22 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in the last 24-hour reporting period, with 13,257 tests undertaken across NSW.

Close contacts are now self-isolating.

Of the new cases, 16 were locally acquired and linked to known cases, eight of which were linked with Tangara School for Girls in Cherrybrook.

Health authorities are investigating the source of the school cluster, which has grown to 17 cases including 11 students.

Four infections were diagnosed in returned travellers from overseas, one was acquired in Melbourne and another locally acquired case is under investigation.

There are currently 117 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health, with eight patients in intensive care.

The community is being urged to maintain high rates of testing.

Health authorities are urging the community to remain vigilant and minimise their movements as the state battles to contain a number of clusters.

“As COVID-19 continues to circulate in the community, maintaining high rates of testing is vital at this time, and NSW Health urges anyone with even the mildest symptoms to come forward for testing,” a NSW Health spokeswoman said.
