Liverpool’s Australia Day ambassador is a familiar face to many in the region. Children’s author Susanne Gervay will present at this year’s Australia Day awards and citizenship ceremony.
Liverpool’s Australia Day ambassador for 2019 is no stranger to the region.
Children’s author Susanne Gervay OAM will welcome the city’s newest residents at this year’s Australia Day awards and citizenship ceremony at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre on January 26, from 10am to midday.
Ms Gervay is a familiar face to local families, having visited Liverpool libraries in the past.
Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said she was proud to welcome Ms Gervay as the city’s Australia Day ambassador.
“We are very proud to have a woman of such high regard join us as Australia Day Ambassador and, to mark this special occasion, a selection of her much-loved children’s books will be displayed at Liverpool City and Carnes Hill Libraries from January 21.”
Ms Gervay said she was honoured to be named ambassador.
“It is such a wonderful opportunity to meet so many inspiring local people, whether they have done something great for the environment, in sport or in another meaningful way, as well as be part of a warm welcome to new Australian citizens.”
“In addition to my official duties on the day, I’ll be presenting our younger award winners with a signed copy of one of my books as a personal thank you for their contribution to the Liverpool community.”
