New images reveal what the expansion of a popular recreation hub in Sydney’s southwest could look like as work progresses on the game-changing project.

Planning is now underway for stage two of the Carnes Hill Recreation Precinct, which expands on the existing hub on Kurrajong Rd.

Concept design images in a report by Liverpool Council show what a proposed swimming pool, outdoor basketball courts and waterplay facilities could look like.

A waterplay park and 50m indoor pool are being considered for the project, as well as two multi-use outdoor basketball courts and two multi-use sports fields.

Currently the precinct has a library, community centre, recreation centre, skate park, tennis courts, cafe and a children’s playground.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said in August, stage one - which opened in 2016 - had been “overwhelmingly embraced” by the community.

“Now stage two will really expand the precinct in every sense, delivering a wealth of high-quality recreational options, both indoors and outdoors.

“This is a great opportunity to enhance one of Liverpool’s finest community facilities and we want to make sure we get it right.”

The report flags the likelihood that construction of the facilities will take place in stages, depending on funding resources.

“The construction cost of aquatic and leisure facilities has significantly increased in recent years, therefore diverse funding options will need to be explored during and following the masterplan stage,” it states.

A draft masterplan will be presented to the council in June.
