A man pictured posing with a wad of cash and a defaced pistol has been sentenced after a police raid uncovered nine phones, more than 100g of cocaine and a set of scales.

Amin Arab, 22, pleaded guilty to possessing an unauthorised pistol and drug supply after 116.4g of cocaine, scales, gloves were found near the kitchen of his Moorebank home in June.

Officers also found nine mobile phones, with court documents saying at least three were used for drug supply with thousands of incriminating messages uncovered.

Arab appeared via videolink at Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday as five supporters, including his father, new wife, sister and two friends gathered in the courtroom.

Arab’s lawyer said his client started using cocaine as a teenager after his parents divorced and had recently accumulated a drug debt, spending up to $3000 a week on cocaine which the court heard made it hard to leave the criminal group.

Agreed police facts state a picture of Arab, posing with a defaced Colt Pistol, was found on the phone of a man named Khodar Hamad in July 2021.

Police also witnessed two other pictures of Arab holding the same firearm on Mr Hamad’s phone, with one image showing the Moorebank man pointing the weapon at the handset with his other hand holding cash, court documents state.

The police investigation into the drug supply operation uncovered Arab’s connection to a drug house in Wolli Creek, with CCTV showing the 22-year-old moving a cash counting machine and cocaine press, into the apartment.

When police raided the apartment in September last year, officers seized $63,000, 693.3g of cocaine, 500g of MDMA, an empty colt pistol police believe Arab was pictured holding, an empty beretta pistol and a pistol magazine with four bullets.

Arab was arrested in June with the discovery of the cocaine and phones in his kitchen, with police facts stating the items included “thousands of instant messages revolving around the distribution of cocaine in and around the Sydney metropolitan area”.

Magistrate Gareth Christofi said Arab “fell into a hole” and “ended up being involved in criminal activity”.

“He was quite considerably involved in the business of selling drugs,” he said.

Arab’s lawyer said his client attempted rehabilitation but it was hard for Arab to “walk away from this lifestyle”.

Arab was jailed for 18 months with the sentence backdated to June 1. He will be eligible for parole from March 31.

A charge of use, supply, acquire or possess a defaced firearm was withdrawn and an offence of participating in a criminal group was taken into account on sentencing.
