A multimillion-dollar plan to expand a beloved shopping centre with new additions including a 24 hour KFC restaurant and a childcare centre has been lodged for a growing suburb in southwest Sydney.

The $14m plans were submitted on behalf of Charter Hall to Liverpool Council to include a “mycar” building, relocate the existing V8 hand car wash and extend the southern end of the building for centre management at the Carnes Hill shopping centre on Kurrajong Rd.

The existing mall has Woolworths, Big W and a Dan Murphy as flagship stores, 46 specialty shops and 926 car spaces since opening in 1999.

The plans will be split up into five precincts at various vacant lots surrounding the shopping centre.

One precinct will be dedicated to the relocation of the existing V8 hand car wash from the southern car park to the back corner of the eastern carpark.

The car wash will have two wash bays and three vacuum bays and will be run by four staff members from 8am to 9pm on Thursday and 8am to 6pm every other day.

A brand new mycar service station will also be included in the same area in the eastern carpark and will employ eight workers who will operate the building from 8am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday and 8:30am to 2pm on Saturday.

A 24-hour KFC restaurant is set to open in another precinct on the former site of a playground on Main St and would be run by 15 employees.

The restaurant would have seating for 30 people and 17 additional car spaces for patrons.

In another precinct, the demolition of the V8 hand car wash will make way for 142 parking spaces and the construction of a new centre management building on the southern end of the shopping centre – closest to the Big W – with six employees working from 6am to midnight everyday.

The new building will have an additional 789sq m available for three unknown retail or food tenancies.

The final precinct will include a childcare centre open from 6:30am and 6:30pm Monday to Friday, catering for a maximum of 92 children including eight children aged zero to two, 44 children aged two to three, and 40 children aged three and over.

Planning documents recognise the development will generate jobs and will “meet consumer demand from the community of Carnes Hill who seek access to conveniently located retail, service and child care”.

“The proposed development will have a net increase in employment of 71 jobs, 40 construction jobs and over 242 direct and indirect jobs,” documents state.

A Charter Hall spokesman confirmed a development application had been submitted to Liverpool council and did not wish to provide further comment.
