Westfield Burwood could add a video games arcade with air hockey, driving simulators and skill challenges, under plans to improve its entertainment.
Scentre Group, which manages Westfield shopping centres, has identified games provider iPlay as the likely tenant for a space next to Event Cinemas.
IPlay operates 17 arcades across Australia, including four branded as Timezone.
Air hockey, driving simulators and skill challenges would be among about 70 machines proposed for Burwood, according to plans lodged with Burwood Council.
About half of the games would provide tickets for customers to claim prizes.
Children would not be allowed during school hours, according to the plan of management.
There is no certainty the council will approve the plans.
Scentre Group made a similar application last year which was refused.
To satisfy concerns, Scentre Group’s planning team has pledged to increase the number of employees on-site at the arcade from one to two.
They have also provided a more accurate assessment of noise.
A spokeswoman for Scentre Group said it lodged the plans for a potential family-oriented entertainment venue.
“Westfield Burwood is a place where our customers and community come together to socialise with family and friends, be entertained, dine, access services and experiences, as well as shop,” she said.
“Adding a family entertainment tenancy will enable us to improve our entertainment and leisure offering for the community.”
