Protesters have mounted another effort to save a Rozelle park from permanent closure due to WestConnex works.
Buruwan Park at the corner of The Crescent and City-West Link will make way for the Rozelle interchange once works begin later this year.
Protesters gathered at the park recently to voice their frustration at the loss of green space, and its shared path connecting The Crescent and Bayview Crescent.
Inner West Greens councillor Marghanita da Cruz said the park was being taken without community consultation.
“It’s very sad that we’ve come to this — the relentless taking of land for roads when we should be moving towards more active and more effective public transport,” she said.
The Rozelle railyards will be converted as part of the project to provide 10ha of open space. This will include pedestrian and cycling links.
A Roads and Maritime Services spokeswoman said the cycling and pedestrian links would connect Lilyfield, Rozelle, Annandale and Glebe, and provide better access to the Bays Precinct.
During construction, a connection from Railway Parade to The Crescent would be maintained according to the spokeswoman.
Alternative access to the Rozelle Bay light rail stop from The Crescent and Bayview Crescent will be provided during works.
The protest follows others held last year.
