A FATHER and son have been crowned Sydney’s gelato kings with their unique flavour combos including sentimental Aussie favourite — chocolate jaffa gelato.
Rozelle’s Bellingen Gelato has taken out the two top gelato prizes at the 2016 Sydney Royal Cheese and Dairy Show, winning both the Champion Gelato and Champion Sorbet awards.
Owners Robert and Danny Sebes have been running the Rozelle shop for only two years after opening the original store in Bellingen, northern NSW, in 2006.
“We know our gelato and sorbet is excellent as we put a huge amount of care into selecting ingredients and preparing recipes,” Danny Sebes said.
“For instance, with our winning flavours, we caramelise the oranges for five hours, before adding them to our chocolate gelato. We pit and stew fresh plums with the spices, for the sorbet.”
The pair’s previous awards include Grand Champion gelato at the Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show in 2012.
