A man has been stabbed “multiple times” to the head in a “chaotic incident” in Sydney’s Inner West.
Emergency services were called to Park Rd, Homebush following reports of a brawl involving four men, with officers from Auburn Police Area Command finding two men suffering significant stab wounds.
Paramedics treated a 48-year-old man for head injuries and a 20-year-old who had a single stab wound to the shoulder. They have been taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.
Police were told two other men – believed to be aged in their 20s and 30s – left the scene in a silver Volvo. One of the men is described as being of Asian appearance, of slim build and wearing dark clothing. The second man is also described being of Asian appearance, of solid build, wearing a black hat and pink shoes. A NSW Police spokesman said no arrests had been made at this stage.
It is understood the brawl began outside a unit block then spilt onto across the street, with blood splatter able to be seen on the footpath.
NSW Ambulance inspector Dominic Wong said both men had serious bleeding as a result of their wounds.
“Paramedics arrived to a chaotic scene with two patients suffering significant stab wounds,” he said. “One patient had been stabbed in the head multiple times and the other had a single stab wound to the shoulder.
“Police provided initial first aid, with paramedics then arriving and controlling the bleeding by applying dressings and pressure before taking the patients to hospital.”
Homebush resident Raj Seaxena, who lives across the road from the incident, said he was shocked.
“I heard a lot of sirens and had no idea what was happening, so I stayed inside and decided to come out when it was a bit quieter,” he said
“I didn’t even know there had been a stabbing until I came down and spoke to the police”
James Lee, who works five minutes away from the crime scene, said the incident was unexpected.
“It’s definitely a huge shock but just such a relief there’s no ongoing risk,” he said.
A local resident in the area who did not want to be identified, said he was out shopping when he saw multiple police cars and the crime scene.
The man said it was “completely unexpected” and he was “shocked something like this would happened here”.
Meanwhile, neighbours are watching on and taking photos from the balconies as police continue to investigate the crime scene, with blood stains seen on the footpath of the incident.
